Doug Nishida, OD, established his practice inside the Marina del Rey Costco in 1999 and brings over 25 years of clinical experience to our office. Prior to his current practice, Dr. Nishida served as a clinical teaching associate at the Southern California College of Optometry and was a partner and co-founder in the Brentwood Eye Care Associates with Craig Kliger, MD.
Dr. Nishida earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California at Berkeley and his Doctorate degree from the Southern California College of Optometry. During his training, Dr. Nishida's clinical rotations included the Madigan Army Medical Hospital on Fort Lewis in Tacoma, Washington, the VA outpatient clinic in downtown Los Angeles, and the Colorado Optometric Center in Denver, Colorado. Dr. Nishida was awarded the Wesley Jessen Contact Lens Achievement Award, the Sunsoft Outstanding Achievement in Contact Lens Award, and a grant from the California Chapter of the American Academy of Optometry for his research in the contact lens field.
Dr. Nishida has written for WebMD and been a presenter at the American Academy of Optometry. He attends numerous scientific conferences and meetings annually to keep up to date on the latest advances in eye care. Dr. Nishida is a fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, a distinction achieved by less than 10 percent of optometrists, and is a member of the Los Angeles County Optometric Association, California Optometric Association, the American Optometric Association, and Mensa.
In his spare time, Dr. Nishida enjoys playing tennis, traveling, and spending time with his family and friends. He is an avid sports fan and roots for the Lakers, Dodgers, and Cal Golden Bears. Dr. Nishida and his wife, Tia, have three daughters.
Dr. David Kato is a local to the Westside, and was born and raised in Santa Monica. He attended Santa Monica High School and then moved on to UCLA. He graduated from Southern California College of Optometry in Fullerton, CA and moved back to the Westside.
Dr. Kato started working for LensCrafters and became a managing optometrist in Santa Monica, West Los Angeles, and Culver City. In addition to patient care, he was involved with training new managers at many locations across the Southern California area. In 2014 he traveled across the US training hundreds of optometrists. Dr. Kato has also spoken on behalf of Johnson and Johnson Vision on Lifestyle Prescribing. Dr. Kato joined Silicon Beach Optometry in September 2022.
Outside the office, Dr. Kato can be found in basketball gyms coaching his son and daughter. He spends many weekends coaching and shuttling his kids to tournaments and league games. His other interests include cars, auto racing, Nike shoes, LEGOs and the Lakers. When he has time for himself, he can be found at a race track doing laps until the sun goes down.
Dr. Ito received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California, Los Angeles and her Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of California, Berkeley School of Optometry.
In her free time, she loves to build LEGOs, knit, and crochet!
